Most of my work is landscape, nature, and wildlife photography. Photography has drawn me to travel and find the opportunity to capture nature at its best. It requires me to explore and chase the early morning light in order to capture the beauty as t

he sun rises above the mountains or the oceans. It allows me to experience events that I would normally miss, such as a cow moose and her calf coming out of the Aspens down to Maroon Lake in the evening. I enjoy providing these moments captured with my camera in the form of canvas and metal prints that can be used to decorate a home or office.

ts that can be captured through my lens and brought to vivid life via digital means.
A main driving force in my desire to create is travel. It has been a huge influence in my creative life. The people, the places, and the myriad of differences between them, were intimately involved in my love affair with photography.
Another huge influence are color and texture. Both can convey a time, place and a feeling. I have an overwhelming need to keep them as very close and personal friends of mine.
Along with the actual capture, I’m in my happy place when manipulating images using different textures, varying tones, filters and degrees of saturation and vibrance.
I invite you to share in the moments and the scenes that I have captured and frozen in time. My present collection is on mediums of metal, glass, canvas, and fine paper of varying textures. I want to stress the word “present” because I’m always experimenting with new mediums, searching for other ways to bring what’s in my head into physical view.

If you need an illustrator or children book artist, I'm skilled in watercolors, acrylics, color pencils, etc but at the moment i do most of my work in digital. I work in digital, traditional or sometimes a mix of both techniques. In my galleries you´ll find a lot of children book illustrations that were started in traditional watercolor but were later mixed within photoshop or any other digital painting tool. I don´t like to get stuck on using just one thing or technique and I go where the client needs me to go to achieve an image that we both like in the end. That is what´s important. A good illustration. How we get there it really does not matter.

Sumner's work has received positive reviews from media and noted gallery owners. Joseph Vallejo of Vallejo Gallery (Newport Beach) commented “he has a unique style and his works have some similarity to Rockwell Kent, also I like his bold use of color”. Sumner's artwork reveals a contemporary impressionistic style that demonstrates his perceptive eye and refined knowledge of color, texture and light. Sumner strives to create pieces that are unique and pleasing to the eye.

at time and didn't have a lot of money to spend on books or film. So my first trip was to the local Library and the "photography" section and more specifically, the "how to" shelf. There I found an odd assortment of books that described things and subjects that were way over my head. Then I found my first edition of the Time/Life books on Photography and that's where I started! The library only had the first two editions and I was in a hurry to learn! So I found the information where to order the series and that's what I did! Every 6 weeks, I would get a new book in the mail and during the 6 weeks, I would practice what I just learned. By the time most of the books had arrived, I had set up a small B&W darkroom in the cellar and was printing my own images, hand developing the film and enlarging and printing up to 11x14's. Family and friends all received "gifts" of my images, whether they wanted them or not!Eventually, I included making prints from "color negatives" and finally, prints from slides, using the "Cibachrome"process. I can't tell you how many hours I spent, in that dark, damp cellar, little radio on and lost to the world! I moved to Florida and got a real job,but kept my darkroom gear in boxes and waited for a new location to set it up. I finally made room in an extra guest bathroom (no cellars in Florida!) and every time we had friends over, the darkroom went into a hall closet, but it was worth the effort. I was getting better at "seeing" images and creating them and heard about a small "art show" in a town a few miles away and sent in my application,$10! I was accepted and now I had to figure out how I was going to "display" my artwork, since I had no real booth. I found a design from a friend of mine, basically a bunch of panels, that could be hinged together and make a "wall" of images. I made the display and painted it a nice 18% gray and was off to the races! Fortunately for me, the first show really didn't have much competition
